What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim AU

Characters

Choi Family

Choi Yunkyun (dad) and Kim Younghee (mom)

Ceo/Chairman Yunkyun:
Former footballer turner CEO; Would be fun if he went partially into broadcasting and partially into merchandising/sports equipment manufacturing 

Younghee-eomma

Cute and fun mom, with a strict side:

Is just as in charge as Yunkyun is in running things, but kills with kindness

Minho

CEO of one of his father’s main companies:

Would be so fun if it was an entertainment or broadcasting company

Would love a scene where Minho is introducing himself and checking in on trainees, and asks Kibum to order them food 

Minseok (may have to change to a fake name cause,..Xiumin..)

CEO of one of his father’s main companies:

No sibling rivalry between them, both are in charge of the two main companies under the Choi conglomerate 

Married, Cool Hyung

Supportive older brother, sometimes introduces Minho to potential spouses but honestly doesn’t push it

Overall

As the only unmarried son, the main focus has been on trying to get Minho to at least seriously date someone before he turns 30

Everyone is fully aware that he’s bisexual, and are taking it more like “anyone can be a potential in law then”

Yunkyun tends to introduce other chaebols to Minho, partially for the business aspect

Younghee almost the same, but usually the second or third children of women she knows

Is playing the long game of “subtly” trying to get Kibum to date Minho
Minseok usually sends texts to try and set Minho up on blind dates

Nothing works, Minho is “married” to his work and doesn’t get the rush of him needing to be in a relationship when he still is young

Reality - Is in love with Kibum, and doesn’t occur to him (until it does) that he would ever need someone else at his side

Kibum and Co. (need to fill out the rooster more)

Kibum 

Secretary to Minho:

Started either fresh out of school (uni or high school; not sure yet) or right after enlistment

Prides himself on being the perfect secretary: 

Has the kind of personality in which he enjoys the feeling of both taking care of others well as well as the “praise” of doing a job well

Background 

There are two options:

Simple (and follows Miso’s character more) - Kibum is just a regular person from a regular background; needed to work right out of school to send money back to his family and applies to every job he can, ends up at an entry level assistant role at Minho’s company, is recognised by Minho (from their childhood) and then given the chance to apply to work directly under Minho

“Complicated” (but a little more fun) - Runaway chaebol Kibum; came out to his family, dad hated it, ran away/disappeared/laid low after being discharged in order to just be a regular person, applied to work low level job at Minho’s company (part of him did it as a dig at his father ((working for a rival))),  is recognised by Minho (from their childhood) and then given the chance to apply to work directly under Minho

Friends (will have to be simplified if going with simple idea)

Jonghyun 

Also a chaebol:
Sister took over their mother’s company, Mother is a huge philanthropist 

Jjong plays the role of socialite mainly; a friendly and capable presence at social gatherings and events

Second son free to follow what brings him joy 

Dear friend who is like an actual Hyung

Taeyeon

Another Kim heir:
Kibum’s actual blood cousin; her dad and Kibum’s dad aren’t close despite their children being 

Either has taken over or is about to take over her father’s company

Close cousin who is like an actual Unnie

“Secret” Friends

2 out of 3 of the only ppl who know where Kibum is and what he’s up to 

Taeyeon’s part of the family is estranged from Kibum’s, Jonghyun’s family are literal strangers; neither have a reason to sell him out 

The three have more of a sibling relationship/dynamic than anything else

Minkey

Usual dynamic:
Think “this is a professional atmosphere so i cant actually insult my boss who annoys the shit out of me However”

Thinly veiled insults/back talk from Kibum that Minho doesn’t take seriously/finds cute

Childhood:
Am in love with the idea that Minho and Kibum met briefly as kids, and that Kibum made such an impression on Minho that he’s remembered him this entire time

Current idea: Choi family ski vacation, Minho gets lost separated from Minseok and finds Kibum as he’s wandering around, Kibum isn’t friendly to him (is going through his own tough childhood) but does help Minho get to the front desk or his brother

Wouldn’t it be so fun for Kibum to have either already gotten his scar or for him to be healing from it at this point and for Minho to recognise him by it when they’re adults?

Plot

Follows basic plot of the show: Kim Kibum is Choi Minho’s impeccable secretary 

Instead of kidnapping backstory, Kibum and Minho met as kids, with Minho remembering Kibum 
Specifics depend on what their characters are like

Conflict 

Depends on characters but either:

Simple - getting together story; Minho being set up on blind dates, using Kibum/work as a way to get out of them, Minho deciding that they should just be together, Minho trying to convince Kibum that they should be together, with Kibum slowly realising his own feelings or slowly falling for him

Complicated - above getting together story that should end with minkey happily together post mutual confession that turns into something more serious when Kibum’s dad shows up; presents himself as a changed person, Kibum believes him at first until the suggestion/misunderstanding of dating/marrying Minho for business reasons is brought up, Kibum quits his job and breaks up Minho, fully becomes a story about Minho trying to overcome 

Minor Worldbuilding Notes

Secretary = Personal Assistant:

Realistically Kibum’s duties shouldn’t extend outside of the office but, whether from his own desire to do well or from the actually job description of a secretary at this level, they end up extending into the role of personal assistant

Chaebols can be gay (wow)

Changes literally only the type of person someone would expected to marry (ie if you’re a chaebol and you’re gay you can still marry someone else’s gay chaebol child for the business element of it, no one cares)

Problems I think I Gotta Solve

1. Simple or Complicated approach? 

   1. Simple is more true to a drama plot but complicated feels more fun to write maybe?

2. If Complicated, why would Kibum’s dad be so shitty about him being gay?

   1. Is it a misunderstanding, or is he just an asshole? When the world I created there’s not real reason to be homophobic if you need an heir?

3. Who else should fill out the office?

   1. Could literally be anyone, SHINee know so many ppl, but who makes sense and can I write? Where do/should/can Taemin and Jinki fit? Can I get a Hoshi into this thing?
